History
Koden Electronics was founded in 1947 with the aim of utilizing the superior electronic technology of the Imperial Japanese Navy for peaceful and civilian purposes.
Since then, for over half a century, Koden Electronics has been developing a business that emphasizes creativity.

The Dawn of Koden
Contribution to Modern Fishing Industry
In 1947, Dr. Yoji Ito, Captain of the Imperial Japanese Navy, in charge of ordnance research and development, founded Koden Electronics Co., Ltd. together with a group of engineers.
At a time when Japan was suffering from severe food shortages, Koden’s radio direction finder “DF” contributed significantly to safer navigation and an increase in fish catches.
It quickly gained popularity as a groundbreaking piece of modern equipment.
It is said that this innovation played a key role in helping Japan’s fishing industry enter the modern era.
Driven by an enthusiasm for freedom in research and development, these pioneers developed a number of unique products, laying the foundation for the company as it stands today.

Developing a Series of World-First &
Japan-First Products
Koden introduced persistent technical innovations, such as transistors, integrated circuits, computers, and color visualization, into its products ahead of competitors, releasing a large number of epoch-making products one after another onto the market. These products include CRT-type automatic Radio Direction Finder; Japan’s first, all-Japanese made, Loran A Receiver; synchronized sonar; The World-first Color Echo Sounder and Marine Color Radar; and Loran C Receiver which achieved domination of the Japanese market as well as the U.S. market. Koden’s products are also highly evaluated in the seas worldwide.
Additionally, numerous research and development themes have been eligible for research grants from national and public institutions, and several products have been selected as outstanding products in various countries.
Koden’s radar was the first marine electronics product to be awarded the “G-Mark” certificate for good design in Japan. In addition, Koden had been developing GPS devices for marine use even before the full constellation of satellites were launched into orbit.
Koden has placed its mark in the history of computers in Japan. As early as in 1957, Koden had constructed a prototype computer that incorporated Parametrons, instead of vacuum tubes. In 1960, Koden developed a scientific computer, model KODIC-401. This traditional digital technology has also borne fruit in the field of communication network.

in New Fields by Integrating Core Technologies
Koden’s years of experience in both technology in information signal processing and technology in the measurement of position, distance, and depth used in the harsh oceans are now being combined. To name a few, “Ground Penetrating Radar” has become well-known for examining pyramids in Egypt, and “Ultrasonic Drilling Monitor” is being used in hi-tech construction sites. “Laser Docking Ranger” and “Land Based Radio Monitoring System” are also created in exchange and combination with other advanced technologies.

Towards the Future
Koden Evolving with the Times
Koden’s relentless pursuit of technological innovation continues with the development of Japan’s first 3D panoramic plotter and an ultra-high precision laser rangefinder. Today, technology must coexist harmoniously with nature under the guidance of sound intellect and sensitivity.
The philosophy of Sontoku Ninomiya in the early 19th century, which stated that seemingly contrasting phenomena (such as self and others, benefit and harm) are not in separate worlds but rather within a continuous circle, resonates with the modern necessity for harmony between technology and the environment. Striving for this balance,
Koden will continue to advance as a pioneering electronics company, fulfilling its mission and responsibilities while opening new horizons for the future.
